The new generation Venev stones come ready to use, and don't actually require extensive lapping. They feel slightly coarse to the touch when new, but this top laye is quickly removed within a few minutes of sharpening.
If you prefer to condition them before use, then I suggest using a cleaning / conditioning stone to rub it over the surface of the Venev stones under running water for a quick conditioning before use. One of these cleaning / conditioning stones are also great for cleaning your Venev stones if they load up during extensive use, or if you simply want to clean them after use.
We have a Bodrid stone and a Breeze semi-natural Nagura stone that both work well for this purpose. There are also other products available online (like the small "King Nagura" 8k stone) that also work well for this purpose. The grit of the cleaning / conditioning stone is not overly relevant, so you can use the same Nagura stone to clean / condition all your Venev stones.
