Q - What mm clamp do in need for general EDC knife sharpening? Talking spyderco PM2/3 and Benchmade Osborn type pocket knives (and smaller) Thanks!
A - If you want to purchase just 1 clamp and have most all-round versatility, then the 7mm flat wide central split KakBritva clamp is a solid choice. Because of the un-clamped 7mm opening, it follows many knife grinds well when clamped due to the angular change of the clamp as it closes.
Personally, I prefer 2 separate KakBritva "side" clamps for even more versatility. For the typical Spyderco full flat grind blade shape (like the PM2 or 3), a 5 degree or 3 degree undercut KakBritva clamp seems to work well as one of those choices.
For a lot of versatility and options, perhaps look at getting 3 different clamps like the 7mm flat wide split clamp, 6mm flat side clamp and perhaps a 5 degree or 3 degree undercut side clamp.
The most secure general clamping method on most knives would be 1 clamp on the flat ricasso/tang area and another an inch or so back from the tip of the knife.
