Q - Can mineral oil be used as a lubricant on the Poltava CBN stones to lengthen the life span of the stone? Or, does a lubricant not lengthen the life span appreciably or add any benefit? Finally, I have the 15,000 grit Poltava CBN. What grit Poltava CBN stone would you recommend I get next? Other than the Poltava I only have the 5 set TSPROF diamond and a 3 micron Jende resin bonded stone. Thank you.
A - The Poltava metallic CBN stones work very well with dish soap diluter in water. You could use mineral oil if preferred, but plain soapy water works well. It's then easy to clean them after use with dish soap and water. Many users use them dry with great results, but my preference is soapy water.
As for your question regarding the next stone after 15000 grit, I would recommend diamond strops after this point. If you wanted a coarse CBN stone, the Poltava 120 metallic CBN is a really good bevel setter.
