Q - or a lower grit stone (JIS 220-400) causes the fewest scratches to a lower level than the grit of the stone. In other words, which brand & type of stone has the most consistent grit size for a stone in the grit range of JIS 220-400. I want a lower grit stone that leaves the fewest rogue scratches that the next higher grit level can't remove.
A - A good choice in this grit range would be a resin / other compound bonded diamond stone, like a Venev or CGSW. Removing the scratch pattern with another higher grit bonded diamond stone is also a good choice, as diamonds cut very fast. Using a coarse diamond plated stone as a low grit stone, causes a lot of deep scratches which take a bit more time to remove, but is still easily done with a lower grit diamond resin stone.
Alternatively, the Poltava metallic bonded CBN stones are very good and fast too for refinement.
