How do the various woods (Oak, Balsa, Alder, etc.) differ in performance?

This is largely personal preference for each individual. As an example - some people prefer kangaroo leather, some horse leather and others cowhide. Some prefer smooth surfaces and other more rough. It's the same with wood - some people prefer balsa wood, others bass, oak, beech or alder wood, some prefer fabric instead of wood. Gritomatic tries to provide as many options as possible.

Alder Strop is mounted on aluminum blank of Edge Pro form-factor to use on guided knife sharpeners.Working with wood is similar to working with leather. You will not be able to fully remove the compound after applying it to the strop. If you want to change compound, consider buying an extra strop.
