Poltava 15,000 grit Metallic CBN leaving inconsistent scratch pattern
Poltava Premium Metallic CBN Stone [6" x 1"]
I have the Poltava 15,000 grit CBN stone I purchased from Gritomatic earlier this year and about 50% of the scratch pattern is much deeper than the rest. These scratches are so deep that I have to regress to an 800 grit stone (Borride T2 800) to get the scratches out and it is not a one or two pass operation. At this point I really can't use the stone anymore. What could have caused this and how do I fix it. Thank you.

There is a possibility that your stone may have been contaminated by coarser grit. Has it been stored separately, or with other grit stones? Coarser grit can easily and almost permanently embed itself into the stone. Never flatten these stones with silicon carbide, this will permanently embed itself into the stone and ruin it's surface. If this is the case, then your only real solution would be to etch the surface with ferric chloride and remove the contaminated top layer. Just be careful not to etch it too long or unevenly.
