Anyone else having issues with the holder not sliding smoothly on guide rod ? Mine seems to bind up a bit.

It's not binding you're feeling, but light friction while it's still new. These don't bind up like the previous generation spring holders do, what you're feeling is just because it's still new. It's s designed to be an exact fit on the rod, so you don't have sloppy play while sharpening. With a bit of use, it will seat itself and match itself exactly to your rod and be smooth as glass. The plastic also has the added benefit of not needing lubrication like the metal ones do.
