That would be entirely up to the user, some prefer a bare strop and others prefer various loaded strops. If you use a leather strop with any compound applied to it, then you should dedicate that strop to only that one specific compound type and grit. Use a separate strop for every compound and grit.
Don't try cleaning off any stropping compound and replacing it with another compound. If your strop compound gets heavily loaded with metal particles or debris and you wish you remove and reapply the same compound, then simply scrape off the old compound with something like an old credit card, and reapply a fresh coat of the same compound.
