I bought the SiC powder set that's offered so I have both coarse and fine. Is it less effective with fine grits?

Yes, fine abrasives will always be slower but still effective. You can flatten any of your stones with coarse abrasive, and then use finer abrasive on the finer stones if desired after flattening.

I'm sorry to keep asking, but just to make sure I understand everything right, is this plate still compatible with finer grit powders? I'm asking because when I use a glass surface I find my stone sticks to the glass and doesn't interact with the abrasive very well. It's more of a problem when I'm using a fine abrasive than a coarse and I was thinking this might prevent that.
I really appreciate all the effort you must be putting into answering questions every day.

No problem, it's my pleasure. Yes, it's compatible with fine abrasives. The force of fine abrasives mixed with water often causes a sticking effect due to surface tension, but the grooves in this plate assists is breaking up that tension and allowing it to move around easier.
