The R2 standard has fully adjustable angled clamps with spring steel plates and it can adjust with front and rear screws to conform to most knife grinds. This is one of the best choices for very secure clamping of a large variety of knives.
The R2 Opti has milled angled clamps which are much thinner and has cutouts to assist in clamping geometry. It can flex and bend to follow the shape of a knife grind but it does not clamp as securely as the R2 standard angled clamps do, but can handle low sharpening angles fairly well.
