Q - Please explain why your CBN stones are so much more expensive than your diamond in same Orion version? Is wearability and maintenance different between the two? Compare feedback differences? And lastly when finishing using higher grits in both diamond and CBN which one leaves greater scratch patterns? It’s a huge investment and would like as much information along these lines as possible. Generalizations are not helpful. Specifics hopefully from experience are answers that are most helpful …..thank you very much! Have a Great Day!
A - The CBN stones are more expensive because they are manufactured in a limited run for now. Both CBN and Diamond will work equally well and require similar maintenance, and have the same wear rate. They leave similar scratch patterns, but the CBN is marginally finer on its scratch pattern.
If you want a better very fine to mirror scratch pattern finish, then its best to use Venev Orion stones in the finer grits, and Poltava metallic bonded stones on the coarser grits. The Poltava stones cut faster than the Venev resin stones in the low grits, and the Venev Orion resin stones leave a finer scratch pattern in the fine grits.
