Q -I bought the F2000 Venev CBN stone to use as a finishing stone before stropping and noticed that the scratches it produces are much coarser than the ones my F1500 and even F1200 produce. It performs much closer to the 800 grit. Is this normal for this stone? For the price I was expecting something different. I have no experience with CBN and would appreciate any help. Thank you!
To be clear, my CBN Venev F2000 stone creates scratches similar to my diamond Venev F800 stone.
A - Gritomatic has not sold the diamond F2000 in some time because it was meant as an experimental product and was noted as such on the website. From your experience, it would appear that this could possibly be the problem with some F2000 CBN stones also. It was found that the F2000 diamond has an agglomeration problem where the fine diamond particles clump together in some cases and cause some bigger stray scratches than what the particles should produce.
My own personal Venev set with the CBN2000 produces good results but I very rarely use it as I prefer more toothy edges.
Contact Gritomatic directly for a return if possible and also ask them to find out for you from the Venev factory if this is common.
