Q - Just starting out. I'm moving overseas and would like to purchase a complete system/kit to take with me. If you wanted to sharpen small everyday folders like a Kershaw Leek and kitchen knives. Can you suggest a package?
I'd like to stay under $400 if possible.
I need something robust as getting parts and extras once I'm out of the country will be difficult.
Thanks,
A - My suggestion would be to get a Hapstone R2 Standard. For stones, you can choose one of either the Basic diamond set, or the Optimal diamond set, or if you want to pay a bit more the Venev Ursa diamond set. The basic or optimal diamond set is a good place to start, and will sharpen any steel. Just lubricate them with a little bit of soapy water (dish soap in water is fine)
For accessories, you'll need a digital angle gauge, a Hapstone Fine tuning adapter and 2 x Hapstone spring assisted stopper rings.
