Is the number in parentheses the micron? Also have you yourself used this paste yet and if so how did it go?

Yes, it is.
Personally, I prefer diamond compounds because I prefer to use the same compound on my strops to use on all of my knives and on any steel type. Diamond compound works well on any steel, as long as you don't over-strop.
