Q - Hi, do I need to dress the Venev Centaur stones before using them for the first time?... I read on another site that Dressing is very important for resin bond stones.
A - They are good to go as they are. Older versions (from some years ago) needed more dressing when they were new but the current ones are fine to use when new. When you eventually want to condition them, you can use a Nagura stone (like the King Nagura) to condition the surface by rubbing the Nagura over your Venev surface under running water. For more extensive conditioning or even leveling, you can use a little silicon carbide powder on a flat surface. (You'll find how-to videos about leveling stones with silicon carbide powder on YouTube).
Some other resin bonded stones (like the Edge Pro Matrix or Columbia gorge stoneworks stones) do need extensive dressing when new because they have a surface layer of resin over the abrasive diamonds that need to be removed before use). The Venev resin stones don't need this.
