K03 Pro Stone Recommendations

Hello Everyone,

I just upgraded my old Lansky system to a K03 Pro Hunter

The stones that come with the K03 are nice, but I like a mirror finish on my blades.

Could someone recommend a stone kit that goes beyond the K03 kit stones?

Would adding the Edge Pro Diamond Matrix Stone 2300 & 4000 a better way to go, vs. a whole new stone set?

Could someone recommend a stone kit that goes beyond the K03 kit stones? Would adding the Edge Pro Diamond Matrix Stone 2300 & 4000 a better way to go, vs. a whole new stone set?

A - For a mirror polish, you'll definitely want to use stones like the Venev diamond resin or Edge pro Matrix diamond resin stones - especially if you're sharpening modern high vanadium carbide or similar steels.

Note that a complete mirror polish won't give you the best every day performance though. A coarser finish will serve you better. Unless you specifically like the aesthetics of a mirror edge, I would advise against it for every day use. It won't hold a good working edge as well as a coarser finish.

If you really do want to go to a mirror polish, then a Venev F400 grit diamond resin stone would be a good step to start at after your finest TSProf diamond plate, then after the F400 you can go to F800 and F1200. After that you can use a 1 micron diamond paste (such as Gunny juice) on a strop.

If you prefer the Matrix stones, then a good start after your finest TSProf diamond plate, would be a Matrix 1100 stone, followed by the higher grits.
