You probably won't have to lap them unless they start to dish after many uses. You can remove the metal build up with a Scotch bright pad, magic eraser or nagura stone if they load up on you. The binder on resin stones slowly wears over time exposing new diamonds while you sharpen. When you do have to flatten them you can use grit that approximately half of the stone rated grit.

The Venev stones do not need any preparation for initial use. You might be thinking of the Columbia Gorge stoneworks 4 inch diamond resin stones that have a layer of resin that needs to be removed before use. This is not the case with Venev stones. Occasionally you can refresh the surface with a Nagura stone and eventually (after a lot of use) you may need some slight flattening.
