Flat grind ?
Hapstone RS [BLACK] Knife Sharpener
The description says "the sharpening system capably sharpens all knife types". I tried my Spyderco Manix and struggled to get it clamp. I tried multiple positions and could never get it very secure. I eventually tried and had screws very secure. The knife still slipped even though i was very cautious and light handed. Can these clamps work with flat grind or do I really need to buy the R2 clamps?

The best method of clamping most FFG knives, including a Manic, would be to use one clamp on the flat "tang" portion of the blade (just in front of the handle) and the other clamp about an inch or so back from the tip. This will give you a secure clamping position.
