Install the thickness compensator. Install your first stone you'll be sharpening with in the stone holder. Install your knife in the clamps and adjust the angle to your preferred sharpening angle. Now remove the stone from the holder and loosen the stone thickness compensator. Place the stone flat on the top of the black frame where the vertical rod comes out of the frame. Slide the stone thickness compensator until it touches the top of the stone surface snugly and lock the stone thickness compensator in place for the rest of your sharpening session. Now reinstall the stone in the stone holder and start sharpening. When you use the next stone in your progression, simply adjust the sharpening angle of your pioneer until you can slide the next stone into position in the gap beneath the stone thickness compensator and the top of the frame like before. Remove the stone and install into the stone holder to continue sharpening. Repeat the same process for each stone / strop before using it during the same sharpening session.
