Please watch the video in the product page, stone thickness compensation adjustment is explained in it.
This holder is designed to use the same method as Lansky stones to adjust for variables in stone thickness. Simply loosen the rod and place the stone holder with stone installed on a flat surface to level the rod with the bottom of the stone, and then tighten the rod again (as per the video).
Note that it is also important to do with your original Lansky stones as they wear down with use.
