What I said was, I cannot slide the bolt up from the bottom even with the scew loosened all the way. Not sure if some oil would help or harm, so seeking expert advise!

It sounds like you might have a seized screw or perhaps a little metal burr locking it in place. If it is not solvable, then contact Gritomatic by email support@gritomatic.com or telephone 256-4748662 (256-GRITOMA) if you can't reach them.
For now, maybe try see if you can remove the screw at the very bottom of the rod and then maybe tap the collar lightly to see if it breaks free. Hope it helps!

Thanks for the advice. The adjustment screw is fine, I can easily loosen it to the point of removal. That top screw though...can't make it budge and I don't want to put the pole in a vise or anything for leverage because the tolerances are so tight I don't want to damage it.

If you can remove the collar and thumb screw then everything is the way it's supposed to be. Remove the collar and simply install the vertical rod into your R2 base from the bottom of the base, sliding it into place and then installing the collar again on the opposite side of the base after the rod is in place.

I can remove the screw, not the collar. It won't budge.

If you can't get it loose, then contact Gritomatic about replacing it. It's likely just a small burr or something but if you cannot get it loose then speak with them about it. Unfortunately this Gear Answers page is only a database, technical questions and usage discussion not directly monitored by Gritomatic.

Yup, I tried them, and am waiting for a response...just thought maybe it was something I could sort out with help so I tried here.
Thanks LeadingEdge!
