For sharpening, use a soapy water solution as a lubricant. A little dish soap mixed with water works well. To clean after use, simply use dish soap, water and a nylon brush and rinse them well. Let the stones dry before storing.
For conditioning & deeper cleaning, you can use a conditioning stone (such as a "King Naguara" or similar). Rub the conditioning stone over the surface of the sharpening stone while under running water to recondition and deep clean the top surface.
For eventual flattening, you can use a pinch of coarse silicon carbide powder or very coarse sand and a little water on a flat surface to re-flatten the stones.
