It's merely an optional extra linear polymer bearing. Some people prefer the feel of a polymer bearing as opposed to the linear metal ball bearing installed in the unit.
To replace the metal ball bearing, you unscrew the orange slotted bearing holder stopper, remove the linear metal ball bearing and replace it with the polymer one.
