They are good at refining edges and finishing, but they will never cut as fast as an aggressive diamond plated stone. A plated stone cuts fast for aggressive edge re-profiling but leaves a slightly damaged edge that can be perfectly refined with these Diamond resin stones. You CAN set a bevel or re-profile with Venev Orion coarse grit stones but it will take longer.
Also be sure to clean and condition them with a small conditioning stone such as the "King Nagura" stone you can find on Amazon for cheap. Simply rub the Nagura stone and the Venev Orion stone surfaces together under running water to clean and recondition your Orion stone surface as needed.
